Caffarelli

Gaetano Majorano (March 8 1710 - July 4 1783), an Italian castrato and opera singer, who took his stage name Caffarelli from Domenico Caffaro, his patron. Like Farinelli, Caffarelli was a student of Nicola Porpora.

Caffarelli often performed at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and was a rival of Gioacchino Conti (Gizziello). Caffarelli played the title role in the premiere of Handel's opera Serse, a role famous for the renowned aria "Ombra mai fu."
